Gertude Stein hat die Luft gemalt

New Opera to a Text by Friederike Mayröcker

Melodrama based on Friederike Mayröcker's (1924-2021) text "Gertrude Stein painted the air". From the libretto specially authorized by Ms. Mayröcker for this work flows a wealth of pictorial-surreal scenes that are not causally connected. The main character constantly dissolves into other characters from multiple perspectives in imaginary encounters. The highly experienced director of modern musical theatre, Cornelia Heger, conceived the decisive impulses and overall structure for the work, in which the libretto is only spoken (melodrama), thus forming an attractive point of friction with the music, which is at times strongly characterized by its pulse. Over a particularly warm ensemble sound of accordion, piano, vibraphone, strings and clarinets, the text unfolds its full, surreal, dream-like pull.

The work is still unfinished and currently exists as a fragment consisting of the overture and the "first scene".
